‘I was feeling rubbish in this pregnancy with really low energy, and a test at 29 weeks showed that I had gestational diabetes. My amniotic fluid levels were also raised, plus the baby’s tummy was growing large.
It was the wake up call and accountability I needed. I had gained weight in this pregnancy as I wasn’t able to keep up with fitness training as I had first time round due to not having time with a full time job, running HYPE Fitness and being a mum. And I was craving chocolate like mad! But now I had to not only look after my own health but my baby’s too.
I immediately put myself on our HYPE 6 Week Challenge with the approval of my doctor and midwives, followed appropriate workouts for my pregnancy and overhauled my nutrition. Overall I lost 4.5kgs on the scales but it’s definitely more when taking into account the growing baby. But most importantly, I have avoided needing insulin by controlling this through diet alone, and have looked after my baby. My amniotic fluid is back in normal ranges and his tummy is now normal size.
The main thing was accountability. Knowing I was being monitored meant there’s no excuses, and it’s felt easy to do. I now feel empowered to keep this going into my post partum period.’
